Ohm Force Ohmicide S is the successor of the legendary Ohmicide multimode distortion plugin with new features and more.

If you’re making music in a box, plugins are an integral part of your production setup. There are countless plugins, both free and commercial. Some become hits, while others fly under the radar or are entirely forgotten.

For a long time, one of these hit plugins was Ohm Force Ohmicide from 2007, a multimode distortion plugin used by many famous producers (Skrillex…). After a long hiatus and the discontinuation of its original plugins, Ohm Force released the Ohmicide algorithms in a Eurorack module. And now they are also back in a plugin.

Ohmicide S is the successor of the legendary Ohm Force Ohmicide multimode distortion plugin from 2007. Ohm Force Ohmicide S takes everything that made the original so popular and unique and takes it to a new 2025 level.

This starts with a major GUI makeover. It’s now more modern and significantly broader than the original interface. It follows the same design language as the two other current Ohm Force plugins.

The core uses again a distortion engine that emulates a crazy number of different distortions types. You can choose between 111 algorithms in 37 types and 3 distinct modes.

They are categorised in three distinct distortion flavors: classics with all sorts of analog-modeled amps (guitar amps, consoles, turnables), edgy with razor-sharp cubic or v-shaped distortions for screaming sounds, and wacky for crazy distortions such as time freeze, chastity belts, jellyfish, and more.

On top of that, you can switch between three modes: standard, XXX (more analog-like behavior) and ODD (lovely, creatively broken).

Each algorithm also ships with various parameters for shaping its character: shape, body, gain, bias, two-knob upward compressor, and a mod parameter with a distinct behaviour for each type.

Multi-Band Distortion Designer

If that’s not enough depth for you, go much deeper and fine-tune the distortion effect into your sounds down to the last detail. Noise gate, filter, feedback control, and mono/stereo options give you full customization options for your distortions.

The multiband operation of the first Ohm Force Ohmicide version is also available in the Ohmicide S. This allows you to go to scalpel level and split the signals into bands by frequency. Alternatively, you can also work in parallel.

Once split, you can apply different distortion settings to each band, giving you tons of creative possibilities. Pre and post-bands are also possible for serial distortion fun.

There are two major new features in Ohmicide S. First, you have four fully customizable macro controllers that can be mapped with unlimited parameters.

You can use them in many different ways: more subtle to make corrections or to completely mangle distortion sounds with a single knob twist.

Alongside the new macros, Ohm Force Ohmicide 2 also introduces a flexible modulation engine. Built-in envelopes, envelope followers, LFOs, step sequencers, and more let you modulate every audio parameter and bring motion into your distortion effects.

This step was to be expected since many distortion plugins nowadays rely on heavy modulation motors (Arturia Dist Coldfire, Output Thermal…).

Finally, Ohm Force also rebuilt the preset browsers and gave them a new look. It hosts 108 presets, including 30 by the team of Ohmicide experts, audio engineers Keep Forest. They promise that it’s the best preset browser in the business. Well, we have to see this.

First Impression

After the developers released the Eurorack module Ohmicide-ER, it was clear that the plugin would make a comeback. It was only a matter of time. I’m happy to see that the popular distortion plugin is back for modern systems.

The new version looks very exciting, especially since you can now modulate everything, making the results more lively but also even crazier than in Ohmicide 1. A very tasty release.

Ohm Force Ohmicide S is available now for 99€. Existing customers of the Ohmicide plugin (purchased version not the free) must login their user account to benefit from a discount.

It runs as a VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), and Windows. A demo version is ready for download. Don’t forget Ohmicide 1 is available as a non-supported free legacy version on their website.

  1. Huh. Out of a sudden some developers will be erased from my SSD 😀
I wonder what would happen if they team up with Soundtoys.
