It’s a desktop device with an optional attached keyboard that works as a standalone MIDI and USB keyboard. This makes its price about 30% lower than Behringer.

You’ll need to place it on a flat surface anyway and most people aren’t touring especially those on a budget, if anything this design makes it easier to carry, especially if you don’t need a larger keyboard. And if you do, it has a rounded MIDI out available.

I do not trust the magnets.
The magnets works as long as you carefully keep the synt on a flat surface.

I can already see ppl glueing and screwing the L1 and keyboard together to meake it fit for live situtations on stage.

I’ve seen people complaining that gear doesn’t have a screen, complaining that it has a screen but it’s too small, but I’ve never seen someone complaining about too many screens. Until now – congratulations!

There’s no competition here. The L1 sounds better, feels better, and offers needed features with good attention to detail. It’s like the 101 on steroids. The magnetic attachment works perfectly in real life

I dislike tha hardware – a LOT. The magnet design is obv not properly working, the synth will fall apart way too often. Two screens are two too much for a simple monosynt without patch memory.

(Ps.: i am in the market for a low priced 101 clone, behringer ftw here.)

you are not the target market, you think too much…

Yes, I already pointed out the possibilities and the fault of the design.

Having the arp/seq on the keyboard module would eliminate 2 problems: (1.) doubling up on arp/seq capabilities [e.g. using arturia midi controller with “L1” sans attachable keyboard] (2.) Having a primitive Donner MIDI keyboard that doesn’t do much by itself sans L1 synth module.

Now every subsequent module they release for this magnetic keyboard must have another arp and sequencer on the module. It’s not the most elaborate seq/arp in existence, no automation, but i guess a tiny benefit would be that each module has its own saved sequences.

Most people have MIDI controllers by now. I’m not impressed with a new MIDI controller that has less features than every other controller on the market.

I’ve seen multiple people guess incorrectly that this SH-101 clone has presets. IF it had presets, it would be interesting but only marginally due to its super basic voice. An added triangle wave or 2nd envelope doesn’t wow me. Donner needs to re-examine the market, this isn’t 2015.

Competition is good. Competition from a decade ago is a head scratcher.

Think again; if the arp and sequencer would be on the keyboard part the module itself would be rather limited. The idea behind it obv is: if you own only one keaybord but more of their upcoming synth modules, each of them has its own arp and seq.

The only worry i have with it is that the magnets are not strong enough and detach when you move the whole unit. Would be great if there was some kind of locking mechanism, or the oportunity to screw the two parts together.
