When you think about affordable Eurorack modules, Behringer often comes to mind. But many other manufacturers also produce very affordable modules, such as Dreadbox, Ladik, or Caveman Modules.
The latter is a recent collaboration between Michigan Synth Works and Neutron Sound, focusing on affordable, quality modules. The latest module from Caveman Modules is a new multimode filter inspired by Roland synths.
Caveman Modules Totem
Totem is a new 12HP multimode voltage-controlled analog filter for Eurorack. The circuit is based on the famous 3109 OTA chip used in classic synths like the Roland SH-101, Jupiter-8, MC-202, and others.
Caveman Modules Totem offers 16 different Roland-inspired filter modes, including various lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, and allpass configurations:
- (1) 24dB LPF – 18dB LPF
- (2) 12dB LPF – 6dB LPF
- (3) 12dB HPF + 6dB LPF A 12dB HPF
- (4) 18dB HPF + 6dB LPF 18dB HPF
- (5) 24dB BPF 12dB HPF + 6dB LPF B
- (6) 12dB BPF 6dB HPF
- (7) 12dB Notch + 6dB LPF 12dB Notch
- (8) 18dB Allpass (phase) + 6dB LPF 18dB Allpass (phase)
You can select them using an A/B category system with a dedicated switch. The filters are fully tweakable using classic cutoff and resonance knobs. A built-in drive circuit adds spice to the filters and offers a wider tone variety.
On the connection side, you have an audio input and output, and three CV inputs (attenuator, attenuverter, and V/Oct). The latter allows you to track the filter as a sine oscillator with half and negative half scaling.
First Impression
At first glance a nice multimode filter with many different filters and an affordable price.
Michigan Synth Works Totem is available in Fall 2025 for $129 USD.

Nice. I like that Cavekeys module but it seems to be available only as a big set? Also not in stock? Also requires another module to work? hmm
I’m assuming the entire collection will be available Fall 25. Will keep an eye out for Caveman.
