Critter & Guitari Organelle S2 is the latest version of its beloved music computer with a more powerful CPU, and more.
The Organelle by Gritter & Guitari is a small, portable mighty music computer with almost endless possibilities. Thanks to its core, which is based on the Pure Data (Pd) music programming environment, the Organelle can be virtually anything.
It can be a Synthesizer, drum machine, effects processor, or even a MIDI processor. Now, the little powerhouse is moving forward. Critter & Guitari has released the Organelle S2, a new generation of its music computer.
Critter & Guitari Organelle S2
Organelle S2 continues the popular and beloved concept of its predecessor the Organelle S. The form factor and the engine is identical but there are neat changes on the outside and inside.
Alongside the 25 maple keys and sturdy black metal enclosures of the predecessor, Critter & Guitari added a new encoder with a smoother feel on the Organelle S2. Also new is the redesigned SD card slot that prevents the card from slipping into the device.
Then, the inside that have been completely redesigned promises Critter & Guitari. The new S2 now runs on a ARM 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A53 64-bit processor with 1GB RAM which is 50% faster than the Organelle S.
The new CPU is capable to run all your favorite patches with eaase, and has room to play more advanced patches. Another change can be seen in the WiFI settings that are now easier.
The sound engine of the new generation is unchanged and is a computer that runs Pure Data based patches. Like the previous versions, it ships with a set of common default patches.
On the connection side, everything remains the same. It has ¼” stereo input and output jacks, a ⅛” stereo headphone output jack, and a built-in Electret microphone.
There is also ⅛”TRS MIDI in/out on Type A, two USB ports, a HDMI output port, a microSD slot, a power supply socket and a ¼” footswitch jack.
First Impression
The Organelle music computer is a fascinating tool that has earned its place in the music production world. This is largely thanks to the community that constantly creates new patches for it.
I’m pleased to see that the Organelle has now been updated and is even more powerful on the processing side than before.
