IK Multimedia Prism is a new algorithmic reverb plugin with an evolving character and per-channel pitch-shifting.
These days, we’re spoiled by reverb plugins. There’s such a saturation that we’ve lost track. Almost every audio plugin developer has at least one reverb plugin in their portfolio.
And now comes another one after Brainworx released the bx_aura this week. IK Multimedia has released Prism, a new feature-rich algorithmic reverb for macOS and Windows with an evolving character.
IK Multimedia Prism
At the core of IK Multimedia Prism is a reverb module with which you can craft the initial reflections, serving as the starting point of your sound.
With size and diffusion controls, and additional high-pass and low-pass filters, users can shape a wide range of spaces. IK Multimedia promises that it ranges from tight, focused spaces to vast, ambient environments.
Things get much more creative and explorative after the main reverb module. It hosts a modulation section in the reverb stage that consists of an LFO per channel (L/R). Depth, LFO rate, and optional randomization allow you to add life and movement to the tail.
Since the modulation is independent per channel, you can generate rich, asymmetrical spatial textures that evolve with the music – an excellent feature.
In the third module, you can find a pitch shifter per channel with a ±2-octave range with ultra-fine tuning down to 1/100th of a semitone. Per channel, you have control over dedicated level and pan control, allowing you to create the beloved shimmering textures or only subtle shifts.
Further, the feedback engine controls the shimmer’s intensity and tone, with frequency-specific shaping for both highs and lows.
There is also a handy feedback pitch switch that toggles pitch-shifting in or out of the loop. Plus, FLIP switches stereo channels on each pass, enhancing depth and seamlessly blending complex effects.
The Prism engine is designed to create a wide range of reverb characters, including traditional reverbs, rich ambient effects, shoegaze-inspired textures, shimmering sounds, and more.
First Impression
A beautiful, comprehensive reverb that, however, doesn’t reinvent the reverb wheel in times of plugin saturation. Nonetheless, I find it’s an interesting reverb, especially with the option to adjust the modulation and pitch independently for each channel
