Isivisi Slurp is a new cross-platform Synthesizer plugin (macOS, Linux, Windows) that combines FM synthesis with spatial dynamics.

FM synthesis is a form of sound synthesis whereby the frequency of a waveform is changed by modulating its frequency with a modulator. If you go the DX route, you use operators and algorithms to create FM synthesis.

There are other ways to achieve FM. Isivisi has released Slurp, a new FM Synthesizer plugin with a unique rotation concept.

Isivisi Slurp

Slurp is a new Synthesizer that explores the fusion of FM synthesis and spatial dynamics. Instead of outputting classic waveform shapes, the engine creates rotational dynamics.

The engine consists of different functions, but the starting point is always the three oscillators, each with various selectable waveforms: sine, saw, phasor, square, noise, and audio input.

According to the developers, they plan to release wavetables, samples, and random in future free updates. Once set, Isivisi Slurp converts the traditional oscillators into rotations that are fully controllable with various parameters per oscillator (octave, infl, phase, slop).

There doesn’t seem to be a filter onboard, which I find a bit of a shame in a modern FM synth. Then, you have built-in modulation, including an LFO, ADSR, programmable offset, note follow, and bend follow.

Like the oscillators, the modulation is not 100% completed and updates will come in future updates. For example, they plan to add a sequencer and polyphonic aftertouch support.

Additionally, there are more features on the list, including stereo range, noise and constant oscillators, UI rework, and more. There are no effects in the current version.

First Impression

To be honest, I’m a bit torn. I find the idea intriguing, but unfortunately, the plugin is still very unfinished. Besides this, it doesn’t sound very new to me. I hope future updates polish it up and bring it to shine.

Isivisi Slurp is available now for an introductory price of $28 instead of $35. A one-voice version is out now as a free download. It runs as a standalone app, a VST, and a CLAP plugin.
