Tenderfoot Electronics has released four new modules: Chronicle 8-ch sequencer, Tetrad quad oscillator, Morse, and KOMBIN-8 mixer.
The Eurorack market is diverse, and there are modules for every need. The advantage of this selection is that you can put together your own unique and personalized modular Synthesizer. You rarely see the same setup twice unless you specifically recreate it.
Tenderfoot is demonstrating just how colorful this module world can be with its four new modules: Chronicle, Tetrad, Morse, and KOMBIN-8. I’m not referring to the new smoother green tone and look of the modules. I’m just saying piep pieeep piep.
Tenderfoot Electronics Chronicle
Chronicle is a new 32HP bands-on, 8×8 grid-based sequencer with up to eight channels of CV and gate. Tenderfoot Electronics Chronicle offers classic sequencer functionality, including performance-oriented features like probability, ratcheting, swing, and more.
You can chain patterns to a song, work with fills, and more. A highlight of the Chronicles sequencer is the ability to easily enter chords in sequences, using the real-time keyboard mode.
With the built-in CV Quantizer with microtonal root shifting, you always hit the right melodies. The module has 24 buttons, each with a scale mapped to it. Additionally, you can edit the scales via the microSD and play.
Store up to 512 patterns and chain them into songs on microSD. Plus, there is a multi-module sync option via standard patch cable or UART protocol, allowing you to sync up to 32 channels. Handy, you can modify the clock-in and out rate with dedicated buttons on the interface.
Tenderfoot Electronics Tetrad
The second new Tenderfoot Electronics module is called Tetrad and is unlike Chronicle, a 20HP digital quad oscillator/synth voice. It’s designed to explore the harmonic and subharmonic relationships between frequencies.
Starting from a single fundamental pitch, each oscillator can be offset along the harmonic series, the subharmonic series, or by fixed tuning offsets, unlocking everything from rich chords and shimmering arpeggios to dense microtonal clusters and animated super-saws.
Each oscillator offers 16 morphable waveshapes between sine, triangle, saw, and square. They can be played together in various combinations, including chords. You can save them in 16 slots per bank x 16 banks that are fully editable via WiFi or on the panel.
Tretrad is not just a quad oscillator, it’s also a quad voice. It offers a built-in lowpass filter with lock-mode pitch control, and a flexible envelope section with three modes: AR, ASR, and Cycling (LFO).
Other features are a unison and solo mode, as well as unique round-robin oscillator triggering modes.
MORSE Code
The first two new Tenderfoot Electronics modules, Chronicle and Tetrad, are classic, and no big surprise on the functionality side, other than the next one.
MORSE brings the Morse code language into your Eurorack system, bridging 19th-century communication with 21st-century modular synthesis. You might think, “Why do you need this for Eurorack?” but it’s very versatile.
It functions as a CW sound source, a rhythmic gate generator, a practice tool, and even a collaborative instrument. Funny, it has a built-in WiFi WebChat mode, letting you exchange real-time Morse signals with other users worldwide.
I can already see it coming. Everyone who doesn’t have social media and plays modular synthesizers will be entertaining themselves this way in the future. Maybe I should also start doing my news in Morse code, it’s perhaps the next big thing in modular, haha.
From traditional keying practice and message playback to live audio decoding and spectrum analysis, MORSE is as versatile as it is unique.
Use the built-in paddle or straight key, connect your own external key, or trigger it via gates and audio inputs, there are various ways to work with. Plus, you have both audio and gate outputs with which you can integrate it into creative, rhythmic, and experimental patches.
KOMBIN-8 Mixer
Chronicle, Tetrad, Morse, and the fourth new Tenderfood Electronics module is KOMBIN-8. It’s a 24HP skiff-friendly 8-channel mono audio mixer with two independent send/return buses. It has eight AC-coupled mono inputs that are tolerant of ±12 V signals.
KOMBIN-8 features independent send controls for two effect buses (A & B), giving you plenty of flexibility. Additionally, you have rear jumpers for pre-/post-fader send selection and the ability to chain multiple units for expanded setups.
According to Tenderfoot Electronics, it is perfect for both traditional mixing and experimental routing.
First Impression
Four exciting new modules from Tenderfoot Electronics. The Morse module, in particular, made me smile. It’s something new and very special. I find the new color scheme interesting, and it certainly stands out from the monotonous silver and black faceplates.
The new Tenderfoot Electronics modules are available now for pre-order: Chronicle $599, Tetrad $349, Morse $349, and Kombin-8 for $299.
